The Woodpecker

I located this Sapsucker (North American woodpecker, scientific name Sphyrapicus) high on  a tree trunk. I immediately setup my D500 with Nikkor 600mm f/4 to get a clear shot of it's activities.  You can see the sap holes everywhere on the trunk. One of the tree is alive, while the other one is dead from the sap holes injury created by these birds.  They feed on the tree sap from those holes.
As I looked through my lens and kept shooting, I saw the bird pulled out a large larvae size tree sap.  However it didn't swallow the sap. It simply flew to an adjacent trunk and pushed the sap into an empty hole.  It's kind of hard work for the bird.

Digital copy, without watermark for any of these shots are available for sale. Please contact me via email at aactionshots@gmail.com with the image id you want to buy.
